Strike vote over video work
NUJ members at the York Press group are voting on strike action to increase a 3 per cent pay offer. Management — part of the American-owned Newsquest group — has withdrawn a further 0.5 per cent the union says had been promised for working in video. The payment would be only at the editor’s discretion, managers said.
NUJ Assistant Organiser Jenny Lennox said: “The members are very frustrated by Newsquest’s reluctance to fulfil their pay promises. They are refusing to negotiate and are even refusing to allow ACAS to help resolve the issues through arbitration. We hope that they will enter into meaningful negotiations and action can be avoided.”
