Freelance directory now free for members

The NUJ has relaunched its Freelance Directory, the online resource to help members get work — and now it’s free for members to take up an entry.

Not only will it be easier for commissioning editors to find the freelance they want, it will also be easier for freelances themselves to update their entries and to upload photos and illustrations. They will be able to present more information about themselves than in the previous directory.

Until now it has cost £10 for freelances to be listed. There are currently 1,200 freelances in the directory, and the union is confident this figure will now rise dramatically.

Freelance Organiser John Toner said: “Our aim is to make this the first stop for commissioning editors seeking freelances. NUJ freelances can be found not only in the UK and Ireland, but throughout continental Europe, the United States, Canada and even Bangkok.”

“It is very good to be offering members this service free for the first time, and we hope that in time every one of our 7,500 freelance members will choose to be listed.”

The directory is for freelances only — that is, those registered as freelance on the NUJ computer.
