Anger over Derry closure

The NUJ has accused Independent News and Media of a betrayal over plans to close the Derry office of the Belfast Telegraph. While there will be no compulsory redundancies the union believes all of the four journalist jobs at the office should be retained in Derry rather than transferred to Belfast.

NUJ Irish Secretary, Seamus Dooley, said the move was a betrayal of a commitment made by INM boss Sir Anthony O’Reilly to “consolidate” the commitment of Independent News and Media to the region.
