BBC staff say it with flowers
BBC World Service staff protesting against the transfer of jobs from London to Asia and elsewhere (details last issue) took part in the first of a series of weekly wreath-layings outside Bush House in May.
Urdu service journalist Arjum Wajid said the World Service was seeking to appoint a manager to oversee the whole project of transferring work to South Asia — breaking an agreement to maintain the status quo when there was disagreement. She also said that in meetings due to take place in June the union would reiterate its opposition to the plans. “The whole South Asia chapel is united on this,” she said. “Our members are infuriated.”
The chapel has started a campaign of lobbying MPs and other opinion-formers.
