Thanks to the NUJ ...
I AM WRITING to thank the union for its support in reaching a conclusion to my case after I was proposed for redundancy by my employer.
In particular I want to pay tribute to the dedication, skill and sheer hard work of national Assistant Organiser David Ayrton. He has been totally committed to my cause and that of the NUJ throughout, ever willing to discuss it at even the most pressured or anti-social hours, and I count myself fortunate to have been involved in a negotiation process with him.
At a time of great difficulty in our industry, I urge any journalist to make sure, as an urgent priority, that they have the benefit of the union’s support and inspiration.

THROUGH your columns I would like to thank all the members and officials for their generous support following the death of my mother after a short illness. I had been her carer for the past 34 years.
Much of the help was concerned with utility accounts transferred to my name. There was one exception: British Telecom plc. Despite being told in writing, BT cut me off. The company lied and lied again about re-connecting me the next day.
However, the mere threat of referring the matter to the NUJ’s lawyers was enough to receive a grovelling call from the chairman’s office.
The NUJ is magic.
