Nicola Coleman steps up
THE UNION has a new full-time Irish Organiser in the Dublin office with the appointment of assistant organiser Nicola Coleman. She has worked for the NUJ for four years as an assistant and had particular success fighting for the rights of journalists working shifts who are denied employment rights such as paid holidays.
In 2006 the NUJ had its first victory in The Irish Equality Tribunal when Nicola Coleman represented Ciara O’Brien in a landmark case of wrongful discrimination on grounds of gender and age.
Nicola Coleman replaces Des Fagan, who left last year to take up a post with the CPSU public service union. She said: “It is a real privilege to work to organise and represent workers and to be part of effecting positive change in peoples lives.”
