THOUSANDS SIGN UP

MORE THAN 3,000 people have written to Ofcom in support of the unions’ campaign to demand that it acts to protect the future of public service broadcasting. The regulator said stated that it received 2,500 postcards, produced by the NUJ, BECTU and Unite, insisting that ITV must continue to meet its public commitments.

The postcards were supplemented with 700 emails sent in to the regulator backing the unions’ case.

NUJ General Secretary Jeremy Dear said: “It’s clear that the public doesn’t want to see cuts in local news.”
