Costly, but FoI can still work

THE HIGH cost of freedom of information queries was highlighted by Mike Dwane of Irish South West branch who called for a radical overhaul of the legislation.

The law had been undermined by amendments and high costs, he said.

But, speaking in the wake of the toppling of the Ceann Comhairle (Speaker of the Irish parliament) John O’Donoghue, Mike Dwane said the Sunday Tribune had showed the legislation could be used well.

Irish Secretary Séamus Dooley hit out at Arts Minister Martin Cullen and Senator Ned O’Sullivan for their criticism of media coverage of the Ceann Comhairle’s expenses.
