Healthy scepticism
WHERE DID Chris Bartter (Letters, last issue) get the notion that Euro-sceptics are right-wing?
Sceptics question systems, point out flawed arguments and accept nothing at face value. The small boy who criticised the emperor’s new clothes was a sceptic. People in power fear sceptics.
Euro-sceptics question the viability of a federal Europe and the advantages to Britain of being part of it. We would, however, albeit with sadness at the loss of our sovereignty, accept the result of a “Yes” vote in a referendum on membership we should and must have.
In short: Euro-sceptics believe in democracy. Mr Bartter apparently does not.
