We’re right to fight the BNP
AS A MEMBER of the union and an Urdu columnist I completely agree with General Secretary Jeremy Dear, who told a union meeting that “journalists have a responsibility to challenge the British National Party” (last issue).
The BNP informed police that they would be organising a protest against the Harrow Central Mosque on September 11. A counter-demonstration was organised by Unite Against Fascism and by Muslims.
I spent half a day to cover the demonstration but the BNP did not turn up. The BNP are not honest and sincere, as was shown as the demonstration did not go ahead due to members not attending.
Protests from the BNP can damage the trust of multi-cultural society. I support the view that every member of the NUJ has a responsibility to challenge the BNP.
