A big money win

WHAT SEEMED to be an uphill battle and at times a no‑win situation in my pension case has been won by the NUJ and I am truly impressed. The union’s performance was nothing short of amazing.

And, thanks to the belated settlement, the NUJ ended up not a penny out of pocket!

If proof were needed that it pays to belong to a trade union, then my case provides the evidence, as without it I would not have been able to pursue my claim against an Edinburgh financial company.

The cash stacked up in damages and costs amounted to hundreds of thousands of pounds, but I am only permitted to say due to a binding confidentiality agreement that the eleventh-hour out-of-court settlement was satisfactory.

At times I felt frustrated and confused, convinced that I only had a slim chance. But in the end I was able to get what I had hoped for.
