Irish award scheme for members only
A NEW prestige awards scheme in Ireland is to be open to NUJ members only, it was announced in February. The National Media Awards will cover Northern Ireland as well as the Republic. At the launch in Dublin were Seamus Dooley, NUJ Irish Secretary; Adi Roche, CEO of The Chernobyl Children’s Project International; Barry McCall, Irish representative on the NUJ national executive; and Mary Finan, chair of the judging panel.
Seamus Dooley said: "We are proud to be part of an awards programme which we believe will provide a benchmark of excellence in the sector and help to further enhance the high standards of journalism in Ireland."
Ian Hyland, Chairman of The Elevation Group said, "As with all our established awards programmes in Ireland and the US, the methodology utilised to determine best practices will consist of a nomination/application form which will be issued to all media via The National Union of Journalists where journalists can nominate themselves for each relevant category. All entries are judged by an independent and highly respected panel from the world of communications who will examine the specific criteria underpinned by the programme's values of success, innovation and impartiality to determine the winners."
