REDUNDANT? HELP COULD BE on the way
THE UNION is offering help with training for members made redundant. All who have lost their jobs are entitled to a free place on any of the professional training courses.
Contact training@nuj.org.uk for more info.
There is extra help for members in the north west of England under a new programme that includes workshops offering advice on employment law and industrial matters and individual guidance on career and personal development.
This will cover job hunting and sharpening journalistic skills, particularly in new media. Participants will have two face-to-face advice sessions plus access to advice over the phone.
There will be ten workshops dealing with redundancies in the workplace.
If the union can secure the funding there could be similar programmes in other areas.
NUJ short courses in professional subjects are designed for mid-career or new entrant journalists who need to update their skills. The programme focuses on technical skills and new technologies but also includes courses in feature writing and writing for the web which are less technology-specific.
New courses across the range of journalism skills are developed regularly and www.nujtraining.org.uk is the first place to look if you want to know about them.
