Up against the law

Police treatment of protesters during the G20 summit conference in London in April made headlines like never before.

More than 90 complaints of brutal and aggressive behaviour were made, and journalists were subjected to the treatment as well. The NUJ itself complained about assaults and threats against members, particularly photographers.

The complaints were backed by photographic and video evidence, for there was also an unprecedented number of people taking pictures — professionals, citizens and activists.

The pictures told the story.
