Surely we can do better
IF MULTINATIONALS have leeched the finances of regional papers to pay for expensive HQ administrations and satisfy their shareholders, what about a return to the old model, where reporters set up simple regional papers which answer to nobody but themselves?
If the NUJ has the confidence of its convictions there is obviously merit in the idea. If we really can do much better journalism without current restrictions, then we should be able to attract better circulations and advertising.
