Buffet bears the brunt
WAS IT a record for a regional paper? On June 12 the Liverpool Post and Echo made 43 journalists redundant in one day, including no fewer than six past and present NUJ chapel officers.
There was a hell of a party, paid for by the 43 — and within half an hour the “sumptuous buffet”, to quote one of them, had been “stripped bare by a locust plague of Biblical proportions”.
The predators, of course, were mostly those who were to remain at the Post and Echo, where MMJs, or multi media journalists, now roam and the simple word reporter does not exist in the brave new world of Trinity Mirror.
