NUJ short courses in professional subjects are designed for mid-career or new entrant journalists who need to update their skills. The programme focuses on technical skills and new technologies but also includes courses in feature writing and writing for the web which are less technology-specific.

REDUNDANT? GOING FREELANCE?
UNION HELP IS AT HAND

The NUJ is laying on extra courses to help staff journalists made redundant and turning to freelancing. Extra dates have been slotted in for the popular Getting Started as a Freelance course.
The dates are July 31, September 25 and November 6. Members made redundant are entitled to one free union course, but Getting Started is only £80 for members and it may be worth using the freebie for a costlier one.
