Five more dead in Somali civil war
FIVE JOURNALISTS have been killed in Somalia this year as civil war rages on. In May, Nur Muse Hussein of Radio Voice of Holy Quran died after being shot while covering clashes between pro-government militia and Islamists.
In June, Muktar Mohamed Hirabe, director of Radio Shabelle, was shot in the head five times in a Mogadishu market. His colleague, news editor Ahmed Omar Hashi, was wounded.
The others killed were Abdirisak Warsameh Mohamed and Hassan Mayow Hassan of Radio Shabelle and Said Tahlil, director of Radio HornAfrik.
Also in June, Somalia Universal TV director Ibrahim Mohamed Ali was abducted by four masked gunmen. He was released five days later.
