Hey Dude, Where’s my review?

WHEN MY book Tricks Journalists Play — examining some of what I see as the ultimately self-destructive malpractices of some journalists, no doubt under pressure from rapacious proprietors — appeared some months before Nick Davies’s book with a similar theme, Flat Earth News, the Journalist said it would review it. It didn’t do so.

However, I see in the latest issue that the Journalist has reviewed Roger Protz’s no doubt excellent book on beer, A Life on the Hop: Memoirs from a Career in Beer.

I can only hope that this does not play into the stereotyped and outdated prejudices of some members of the public about journalists’ priorities.

We didn’t review Roger Protz’s book; we ran a ‘people’ story about his working life, particularly his NUJ activities over the years. Dennis Barker’s book will feature when we next have space for reviews. Editor
