Dame Anne Leslie on why she is an NUJ member
My first newspaper job was rendered hellish, and poverty-stricken, by a bullying news editor who told me that, because I was a mere woman, I was keeping a good man out of a job. I joined the NUJ and learned, for the first time, that I had employment rights. The Union has maddened me over the years but I’ve remained a loyal member ever since.
