Secretary of Chester branch
Herbert Samuel Woodward, well-known photographer in the North West, has died at the age of 95. “Woody” as he was known to colleagues, was born in Hale, Cheshire, and despite a severe physical disability became a freelance photographer, working for national newspapers and magazines.
During the war he joined the staff of Kemsley Newspapers in Manchester and was appointed an official censor of newspaper photographs. Later he became chief photographer for the Chester Chronicle group and was secretary of the NUJ Chester branch for many years.
