Union super heroes in Leeds

BY DAY, they’re overworked and underpaid journalists and NUJ members. But put a charity running challenge in front of them and they’re transformed into superheroes.

Nine union members in Leeds put their fitness levels to the test in a charity run, the Leeds 10-kilometre Run For All.

Flying in the face of journalists’ unfit image, all recorded respectable times of around an hour, with The Incredible Hulk — Yorkshire Evening Post education reporter Ian Rosser — leading the way home in a super-fit 45 minutes.

The run was inaugurated by the late Jane Tomlinson before she lost her fight against cancer. In June, 11,000 runners completed the course in tribute to her.

The Hulk said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere, with people along the route encouraging you on. Jane was a big friend of the YEP so we had to have a team in there, and there has been real camaraderie.”

The Leeds NUJ runners raised more than £1,000 for Jane’s Appeal.
