The NUJ chapel at the Yorkshire Evening Post in Leeds is celebrating the recruitment to the union of every head of department — news editor, features editor, sports editor, production editor, chief sub and chief photographer. FoC Pete Lazenby said it was the first time this has happened for 30 years.

Northcliffe Newspapers is closing the weekly Leicestershire Chronicle, less than two months after it was a finalist in the Press Gazette’s Regional Press Awards. NUJ official Chris Morley said it showed Northcliffe was “a company that gives scant regard for the communities it does its lucrative business in”.
