Should we poke fun at other papers?
Re Steve Bell’s cartoon (July): is it really appropriate for a magazine celebrating journalists to publish a cartoon which pokes fun at The Independent as “Shoyte”? Particularly when Steve Bell is best-known as a Guardian cartoonist.
That thought aside, the cartoon doesn’t make much sense. Is the media mogul meant to be Anthony O’Reilly, the Indie’s proprietor, or perhaps Denis O’Brien, who’s stalking the company?
I can only guess the “O’Beanie” moniker means it’s meant to be O’Reilly, given his links to Heinz. Very amusing.
