Check the exchange rate

IN COMMON with a good number of Irish journalists, I take advantage of the libel insurance scheme offered by Imaging Insurance which I learned about through the NUJ. I have just received the invoice for this year’s premium, which offered me a choice of paying either in euros or sterling. I was halfway through writing the cheque when a thought occurred to me, and I checked the exchange rate.

The result, a saving of over €50 if I pay by sterling bank draft, even after taking bank charges into account.

Particularly given the recent exchange rate moves, it might be worth freelances considering the money-saving possibilities of double-checking exchange rates.
